But that only requires you to have something like an external hard drive or NAS share, which many people already have. An image and restore is slower because that's two operations, since you're now having to "park" your data on an intermediate device before restoring it to its final destination. A clone is faster because you're going straight from the source to the destination in the same operation - but it requires you to have a way to have both the source and destination devices active at the same time, which not everyone has the necessary hardware to achieve.
The end result will be the same in both cases.
